"Fire Horn" is an English metaphor for the historical name of Taganrog, literally translating as "fire on the cape."

"Tagan" (Turkic) is a tripod for a fire, and "Rog" (Russian, archaic) means a cape, a spit of land jutting into the sea.

Before Peter the Great founded the city in 1698, this cape on the Sea of Azov held signal fires burning on such tripods — an early, primitive lighthouse for passing ships.

"Fire" is the signal flame, "Horn" is the cape. That's where our community's name comes from.
